Gay is Here to Stay

Image

Whenever I see parents on the news being outraged whenever a children's television show or movie is in any way associated with a gay person, my reaction is split. I feel sad for these parents children because a number of them will be gay and will unfortunately be told that it is evil. They will feel shameful and may live a miserable life in the closet. Another part of me finds it funny that these parents are trying to shield their kids from reality. I don't think they have any idea just how many gay people are invovled in kids entertainment.

Disney films and television shows have featured gay actors and actresses. Howard Ashman was a brilliant playwright and lyricist. He worked on Beauty and the Best and The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Oliver and Company. Nathan Lane was Timon in The Lion King. Rosie O'Donnell was in Tarzan. Ellen DeGeneres was the voice of Dory in Finding Nemo. The cast of Mulan had three gay men, BD Wong, Harvey Fierstein, and George Takei. Lance Bass has voiced characters on Disney's television shows like Higglytown Heroes and Kim Possible. Johnny from Johnny and the Sprites is gay and out.

It's not just Disney, Rosie O'Donnell, Margaret Cho, Harvey Fierstein and a couple of other gay actors and actresses have been on Sesame Street. Another PBS show Postcards from Buster came under fire for showing a lesbian couple. I saw the episode, it was such a small part where all we saw was a picture of the couple and one of the moms. Nothing inappropriate happened, the words gay and lesbian weren't even said. The episode focused on how maple sugar is made. Then there was Tinky Winky from the Teletubbies. I know my gays, he was not one of them. He was purple and he carried around a red purse. Bitch didn't know how to accessorize or dance, a true gay alien would.

The presence of gay actors and actresses in childrens films and television shows has no negative impact. I watch young children, they don't care about the personal lives of their favorite TV and movie stars. They just want to be entertained. Yet these homophobic parents are acting as if the mere presence of gays is dangerous. I understand they have every right to raise their children however they please. On the other hand, it's pretty pointless of them trying to shelter their children from the world we live. I don't know if they will ever accept the fact that gay people are not going away. I am happy to see that like racists these intolerant individuals are fighting a losing battle. Now if we could only catch up to Canada, Europe and South Africa...

i think that people like that just except the reality of this world. It blows me away that in the 21st Century that gay marriage is a issue because why would it worry you.As long as their not fucking on a kids show whats the problem. But then i come from a country that led from the front with human rights we were first to give women the vote and we also have Civil Unions.
